Chess sports clubs in Istanbul 14

An Istanbul chess club is usually a registered sports club, a spor kulübü, and is better known by its tournaments than by an address. Nova Time, Chess Point, İstiklal, Poseidon and Hilltown run numbered series in shopping centres and cafés across the city, Fuby Akademi and Göktürk Satranç Akademi organise norm and title tournaments, and Lion and Usta Hamleler put on events for children. For most of them no page states a seat, so their cards show the city as a whole.

At the other end are the clubs of the national leagues: the federation’s Istanbul office names Bayegan Pendik, Türk Hava Yolları and Göktürk Satranç Spor Kulübü among the Istanbul clubs at the head of the Super League. Istanbul Technical University fields men’s and women’s teams at the university championship. Few clubs publish a regular club evening or say whether a visitor may simply come, so write to them before turning up.
